What:

The U.S. Postal Service will kick off the holiday season by re-opening its express shipping and mailing service center on Monday, Nov. 30 at the Main Post Office near the Honolulu Airport.

“Rudolph’s Express Shipping Shack” provides customers mailing three domestic items or less and/or purchasing Forever stamps a way to bypass the traditionally long holiday lines in the Main Post Office’s retail lobby.

Customers attending the opening of the shack on Monday will be invited to take a photo with augmented reality holiday animations emanating from a USPS blue mail collection box. Customers utilizing the USPS AR app—available at iTunes or Google Play—can scan the logo on any USPS blue mail box throughout December to view a changing lineup of holiday animations and messages, including Peanuts characters from Dec. 14 to 17. When someone stands next to the box, he or she will be surrounded by the animation. They can then ask someone to snap a photo of them interacting with the animation. The app can also be used to order stamps and boxes and schedule pickups from the Postal Service.

The shipping shack’s hours of operation this holiday season are: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Nov. 30 to Dec. 5; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays from Dec. 7 to 21. On Saturdays Dec. 12 and 19 the shack will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Who:

USPS Honolulu District Manager Greg Wolny; Santa Claus & Mrs. Claus

The shack will be officially opened for business after a noon ribbon-cutting ceremony by USPS Honolulu District Manager Greg Wolny and Santa Claus himself. After the brief ceremony, postal employees will spread holiday cheer to customers with live holiday music.

When:

Monday, Nov. 30, from noon to 12:30 p.m. (ribbon cutting/photo op to occur at noon)

Where:

Main Post Office near Honolulu Airport

Other:

Rudolph’s Express Shipping Shack and the Main Post Office are decked out this year with Charlie Brown- and Peanuts-themed lights, images and decorations, in a nod to the recently released “A Charlie Brown Christmas” Forever stamps.

Postal employees will be on hand during the kickoff event to provide quick and easy demonstrations of its Self-Service Kiosks and to pass out candy canes to customers of the shipping shack.
