MURPHY, ID – Following a Sept. 12, 2017 community meeting, and review of all public feedback, the Postal Service has decided to proceed with relocating the leased Murphy Post Office to a yet-to-be-determined location as close as reasonably possible to the existing location.

On Feb. 21, 2017, the Postal Service suspended operations at the Murphy Post Office due to an unsafe environment for postal employees and customers, and operations were temporarily moved to the Melba, ID, Post Office. To make it easier for Murphy Post Office Box customers to pick up their mail, the Postal Service installed temporary centralized mailboxes just down the street from the Murphy Post Office. Rural route customers in the area continue to receive mail delivery as usual.

Because the Postal Service and its landlord could not reach an agreement on the needed repairs, the Postal Service has been forced to find a new location. The Postal Service’s goal is to select a new customer service location as close to the current site as possible. Sites will only be considered that are convenient and otherwise suitable for customers and that will meet all postal operational needs.

The Postal Service intends to offer the same services at the new location as were offered at the previous one. The Postal Service will continue to offer services at the Melba Post Office until the new location is open and operating.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
