Most Central IL District Post Offices To Close at Noon on July 3rd

Noon set as day’s final mail collection

BEDFORD PART, IL — Most Post Office retail counters in the Central Illinois District of the U.S. Postal Service will close at noon on Friday, July 3, 2009 to enable retail employees to spend more time with their families. The last collection for mail deposited in blue collection boxes will also be at noon on that day. All collection points that have a regularly scheduled collection time prior to 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday July 3rd will be collected as scheduled. Regular mail delivery for July 3 will be unaffected by the change. P.O. Box mail access will only be available until 12:00 PM (noon) in those Post Offices where retail counters and access to Post Office Boxes are co-located and are affected by early retail closing.

The Central Illinois District includes cities and towns with ZIP Codes 604-605, 609, 613-619 and 626-627.

“As many businesses close early on July 3rd said District Manager Peter Allen. The number of customers visiting our lobbies greatly diminishes. We view this as an opportunity to afford retail employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in most of our locations early on July 3rd."

The following Central Illinois District Post Office retail counters district will remain open until 5 pm on July 3rd and mail deposited in lobby collection bins and blue collection boxes located inside and outside these Post Offices will be picked up at 5 pm that day:

  • Bloomington Eagle Station (1211 Towanda Ave)
  • Champaign (2001 North Mathis)
  • Decatur Memorial Station (1601 East Mound Road)
  • Downers Grove (920 Curtis Street)
  • Kankakee (475 East Court)
  • Joliet (2000 McDonough Street)
  • La Grange (121 West Hillgrove)
  • Peoria North University Station (6310 North University Street)
  • Orland Park (9500 West 144th Place)
  • Springfield Southwest Station (1760 Wabash Avenue)
  • Worth (11114 South Harlem Avenue)
  • Naperville Post Office (1750 W Ogden Ave)

Commercial customers are asked to check with their Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit for July 3rd hours of operation. To obtain the phone number of a specific Post Office, customers may call 1-800-ASK-USPS.

Post Office retail counters will be closed on Saturday, July 4, 2009 (Independence Day – a federal holiday) and there will be no mail delivery.

Post Offices retail counters will resume regularly scheduled hours on operation on Monday, July 6.
