CHICAGO, IL — If travel out of the country is on your agenda and you need a new or renewed passport, the Chicago District will make it quick, easy and convenient to start your trip off on the right foot.
11 Chicago District stations and branches will hold a passport fair on Saturday, October 27. There will be dedicated service counters and extended hours to accept and process passport applications.
Customers should bring proper proof of American citizenship (a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state; a previous U.S. passport; a certificate of citizenship; or a naturalization certificate) and proof of identity (a previous U.S. passport; a naturalization certificate; a certificate of citizenship; or a current valid driver’s license, government ID or military photo ID).
Customers can download a passport application at www.usps.com/passport in advance, but must not sign it (they will be requested to sign in person when they present the paperwork).
U.S. passport books for persons 16 years and older will cost $135: $25 in a separate payment to the U.S. Postal Service for its processing fee; and a $110 separate payment (by check or cash only) to the State Department for the passport application fee.
Passport books for those under 16 will cost $105: $25 in a separate payment to the U.S. Postal Service for its processing fee; and a $80 separate payment (by check or cash only) to the State Department for the passport application fee. Also, applicants under age 16 will have to appear with both parents. If one parent is not available, a notarized authorization from the absent parent is required.
Customers can also have passport photos taken at the Post Office for an additional $15.
The list of passport fair locations and hours is attached.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
