PALATINE, IL – The U.S. Postal Service is hosting a job fair on Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Palatine Processing and Distribution Center, located at 1300 East Northwest Highway Road in Palatine.

At the job fair, information booths will be set up to help answer applicant questions and provide a “behind of the scenes” look at how mail is sorted and delivered; featuring bags of mail and onsite postal vehicles. The Postal Service is currently hiring Rural Carrier Assistants (RCAs) to help sort and deliver the mail at Post Offices throughout northern Illinois.  No experience required, training is provided, but applicants are encouraged to bring their resumes describing previous work experience. “We’re looking for motivated applicants,” said Postmaster Laura Crews-Stephan. “These are career path positions.”

Interested applicants should attend the job fair to learn more about these positions. Duties and requirements for this position include:

  • Sorting, delivering, collecting mail on foot and/or by vehicle under a variety of weather conditions
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive customer service experience
  • May be required to provide own vehicle with automatic transmission to deliver the mail
  • Working variable hours up to 6 days a week
  • Must be 18 years of age and not enrolled in high school
  • Must pass criminal background check and must pass drug screening
  • Must have valid driver’s license (2 years continuous) and a good driving record
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or have permanent resident alien status

“There are numerous vacancies available now and more coming soon,” added Crews-Stephan. “This is an excellent opportunity to work for the most trusted government agency in the country.”

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
