Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve Hours at Local Post Offices

CHICAGO, IL — Most Post Offices, stations and branches in the metropolitan Chicago area will be open on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, but will observe revised hours of operation.

All Chicago Post Office stations and branches (ZIP Codes 606, 607 and 608) will open at their regular times and close at noon on Christmas Eve except for the Main Post Office, 433 W. Harrison St., which will close at 5 pm, and the Jewelers’ Row and O’Hare retail stations, which will be closed on Christmas Eve.

All Post Offices in ZIP Codes 600, 601, 602, 603, 604 and 605 will open at their regular times and close at noon on Christmas Eve, with the following exceptions:

  • Closing at 3 pm:  Elgin, Melrose Park
  • Closing at 5 pm::  Batavia, Berwyn, Bolingbrook, Calumet City, Carol Stream, Downers Grove-Woodridge, Lagrange, Matteson, Naperville, Oak Forest, Oak Park, Orland Park, Plainfield, Schaumburg, St. Charles, Tinley Park
  • Closing at 5:30 pm: Palatine
  • Closing at 6 pm: Arlington Heights, Evanston (Main), Skokie (Main)

Mail in collection boxes located at Post Offices will be picked up for the final time on Christmas Eve at 5 pm. All other collection boxes will be picked up for the final time at 12 noon.

All Post Offices in the metro Chicago area will observe their regular hours of operation on New Year’s Eve, with the exception of the Chicago Main Post Office, which will close at 5 pm.

Each Post Office will post its revised hours of operation for these two days. Customers are encouraged to go online to usps.com or call 800-ASK-USPS for information about specific Post Offices.

Commercial customers should check with their Business Mail Entry Units for Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 hours of operation.

Mail will be delivered on those days as scheduled.

In observance of the holidays, all Post Offices will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Only Priority Mail Express – Holiday Premium will be delivered on Christmas Day. Post Offices will resume regular business hours on their next regularly scheduled day of operation.

Postal services, including buying stamps and gifts, paying for postage and Post Office Boxes, and other transactions, are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at usps.com.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
