MORTON GROVE, IL — On Wednesday, August 10, LaTreece Smith will take the Oath of Office and be installed as the 17th person to earn the distinction and title of Postmaster of the Morton Grove Post Office since 1874.
The installation ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Morton Grove Post Office, located at 9114 N. Waukegan Road. Local officials will be in attendance.
Smith will oversee postal operations within Morton Grove city limits. This includes 44 employees and 20 carrier routes delivering thousands of pieces of mail to more than 10,000 addresses. She is responsible for all mail delivery, retail sales and other customer service operations related postal products and services.
Smith began her postal career in 1988 as a part-time casual clerk. She worked at a variety of offices over the years sorting mail, supervising, and gaining knowledge about postal operations. She has served as the Officer-In-Charge at the Fox River Grove, Forest Park, Golf, Hines, Kenilworth and Morton Grove Post Offices.
“I am honored to receive this opportunity,” said Smith. “I look forward to the future and will do my best to serve our customers.”
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
