INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis has a new Postmaster. A native of Long Island, NY, Mary A. Sullivan was officially installed as Postmaster on Monday, March 5, 2012.
Sullivan has been with the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years. She began her career as a distribution clerk in Bellmore, NY. Prior to her appointment as Indianapolis Postmaster, Sullivan served as the manager, Operations Programs Support for the Greater Indiana District.
She has extensive Customer Service experience as well as with Distribution Operations and Finance. Sullivan holds a bachelor’s degree in Management from Long Island University, a master’s degree in Business Administration from Sullivan University, and a doctorate in Leadership Education from Spalding University.
Sullivan is married to Dennis, who is retired from the Postal Service, and has two sons, Patrick and Brendan. Patrick is currently the acting Postmaster in Ingalls, IN, and Brendan is a student at Ball State University.
“Over the years, we’ve lived in many different places including Louisville, KY, Atlanta, GA, and Elkhart, IN, and two years ago we moved to the Indianapolis area, “ Sullivan said. “I was always close to Indianapolis as my husband’s family has largely relocated to this area. For that reason, and the fact that this is such an incredible city — full of vitality and growth — I am so happy to call this my home. As Postmaster, I look forward to continuing to provide world-class postal service to the Indianapolis community.”
At the installation ceremony, the JROTC of Northwest High School performed the Color Guard, and the National Anthem was sung by the ManualAires of Manual High School Choir who recently performed in Carnegie Hall, NY.
