INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Etna Green is a tiny town in Kosciusko County that spans only half a square mile in total, yet it is a treasure trove of history and art. Home to a small Amish community and with a population of about 663 people, the town of Etna Green includes a giant Western Art mural by local artist Robert Hudson on the side of the building facing the town park. It also boasts a community museum in Heritage Park where visitors can learn its history and view some of the most memorable moments of its basketball team.
Etna Green will have another item to add to its community history on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 when the 47th Village Post Office (VPO) in the Greater Indiana District opens at George’s Grain Farm, 120 N. Walnut St., Etna Green, IN 46524.
George’s Grain Farm/Etna Elevator is owned by Lyle Faulkner II (known to most as George) who has turned his family farm into a thriving business to support local grain farmers and also local animal farmers.
George’s Grain Farm is open for business Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.
The new postal center will be opened by the U.S. Postal Service’s Manager of Post Office Operations Tangela Bush. Several USPS and local officials will be present at the event. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. and an open house will follow from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
In 2011, the Postal Service introduced the VPO model as an alternate retail location for postal products and services, especially in rural communities.
VPOs are operated by local businesses contracting with the Postal Service and offer a range of popular postal products and services including stamps and flat-rate packaging.
Another VPO will open in Harrodsburg on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
