INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Churubusco Rural Carrier Diane Reed was making a delivery just after noon when she noticed one of her customers, an 80-year-old woman sitting in her car in her garage. The woman was sitting sideways and still wearing her nightgown, so Reed realized something was very wrong. She checked with her customer and discovered that she had been locked out of her house from 6:30 a.m. and had been alone in her garage since then. The elderly woman had no phone so she wasn’t able to call anyone. Reed contacted a family member and stayed with her until that person arrived with a key. Once the woman was safely inside, Reed continued on her route.

Churubusco Postmaster Lori Thomas is very proud of Reed and her heroic action, so she decided to nominate her for a Postmaster General (PMG) Hero Award. Thomas received a copy of the letter from the PMG’s Office last week, which thanks Reed for her heroism and applauds her as a valuable member of the Postal Service family.

To further recognize her heroism, Acting Greater Indiana District Manager Jeff Camp and Manager, Post Office Operations David Conwell will surprise Reed tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 when they present her with a copy of the PMG’s letter.

Time:                            8 a.m.

Location:                      Churubusco Post Office, 123 S. Main Street, Churubusco, IN 46723

Date:                            September 14, 2015.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
