Indianapolis, IN — The Northwood Post Office in Fort Wayne is up and running today, July 12, 2017 following a temporary closure due to a sewage backup in the basement caused by heavy flooding on Monday night.

“It’s business as usual for our customers and for our employees,” said Greater Indiana District Manager Todd Hawkins. “The water has been removed and the building has been cleaned thoroughly,” he said.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our employees who worked so diligently throughout the night to ensure the building was completely safe for our customers and for the employees who work there. This includes Fort Wayne Postmaster Kathryn Harris and the staff of the Northwood Station, Fort Wayne P&DC Manager Martin Hunnicutt and his employees, especially his Maintenance staff who helped with the cleaning efforts,” he said.

“I would especially like to thank Allen County Building Department Assistant Commissioner Roger Clark and Senior Commercial Inspector Curtis Auld for their invaluable help in arranging a crew to work with us in clearing the water from the building, and in the subsequent clean up and sanitization so we were up for business this morning,” Hawkins said.

“The safety of our customers and our employees is paramount to the U.S. Postal Service, and because of this tremendous joint effort, we were able to reopen the Northwood Post Office this morning and continue to provide excellent service to our customers.”
