LOUISVILLE, KY – Letter carriers with the U.S. Postal Service continue to deliver mail throughout the city despite a winter storm warning and massive power outages.
“Our employees are making a great effort to deliver the mail,” said Louisville Postmaster Steve Gregory. “However, customers should expect some delays due to road conditions and downed trees and power lines.”
The power outages have forced the closure of some retail window units. They include:
Anchorage Post Office, 11501 Park Road
Baxter Post Office, 1527 Highland Ave.
Buechel Post Office, 2259 Hikes Lane.
Fourth Street Post Office, 400 S. Fourth Ave.
Pleasure Ridge Park Post Office, 6121 Greenwood Road.
Shively Post Office, 3113 Crums Lane.
Valley Station Post Office, 10642 Dixie Highway.
All remaining offices will be open until 4 p.m. For customer convenience, the St. Matthews Post Office, 4600 Shelbyville Road, will be open until 6 p.m. and the Main Post Office, 1420 Gardiner Lane, will be open until 7 p.m.
The Louisville Postmaster reminds customers to keep paths to their mailboxes clear of ice and snow. “Many of our carriers making curbside deliveries are experiencing difficulty with ice-covered mailboxes,” said Gregory. “We would appreciate it if customers could take a few minutes to remove ice and snow from around mailboxes and make sure there’s a clear path to and from the box.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
