LAGRANGE, KY – Julia Waters will be installed as the 39th Postmaster of LaGrange on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 2 p.m. The Installation will take place at the LaGrange Courthouse Gazebo, 100 W Main St. The Oath of Office will be administered by Rosemary Miller, Post Office Operations Manager for the Kentuckiana District.

Ms. Waters began her postal career 25 years ago as a city carrier at the Okolona Post Office in Louisville. Prior to her promotion, she was a customer service supervisor in Okolona. She has served details in Customer Service at the Lyndon Post Office and as a Station Manager at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Post Office, both in Louisville.

For the past several years, she served as coordinator of the flag retirement ceremony in Louisville – an event in which thousands of American flags are retired in a dignified way.

The LaGrange Post Office services nearly 9,000 delivery points with three city routes and 10 rural routes. She will oversee a workforce of 27. The LaGrange Post Office generated over $2.4 million in revenue in 2009.

Waters is the proud mother of three daughters – Sheryl, Valorie and Jessica – and three grandchildren.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
