LOUISVILLE, KY – Let the Postal Service take the hassle out of shipping this holiday season with its Automated Postal Centers (APC).
The self-service kiosks are similar to a bank ATM and offer a quick and easy way to purchase stamps or mail packages without waiting in line at the Post Office. They’re also bilingual — English and Spanish.
“It’s like having an additional employee who works 24 hours a day,” said Postmaster Richard Curtsinger. “Customers can access the APC 24/7. It’s a convenience we are happy to provide.”
The Post Office will have hosts on-hand to demonstrate to customers how easy it is to use an APC at select sites in the Louisville area throughout the month of December.
Using debit or credit cards, APCs offer these services:
- Buy stamps – self-adhesive sheets of 18.
- Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in any amount for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Send items via Express Mail - next-day delivery guaranteed in most areas; Priority Mail – 2 to 3 day delivery; First-Class Mail - postage for letters up to 3.5 oz. large envelopes and packages up to 13 oz.; and Parcel Post - postage for packages 70 lbs. or less.
- Insurance, Delivery Confirmation, Certified Mail and Return Receipt.
- Look up ZIP Codes and get additional mailing information.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
