FRANKFORT, KY – John R. Dampier has been promoted to Postmaster of the Frankfort Post Office after a year of acting in the position.
Dampier follows a long tradition of postal service in the community, where the first postmaster – Daniel Weisiger – was documented as being appointed in 1794. Mr. Dampier will be the 28th postmaster of Frankfort.
Dampier began his postal career in 1995 as a letter carrier in Lexington, KY. He eventually crossed over into management which led to assignments at the Beaumont and Brentwood Stations in Lexington, and in Versailles, KY. He later served as Postmaster in Nicholasville and Stanford, KY.
According to Tom Adkins, Manager of Post Office Operations for the Kentuckiana District and former Frankfort Postmaster, candidates for postmaster positions are selected competitively nationwide through a series of interviews. Education, work experience, and capabilities pertinent to the assignment are evaluated prior to acceptance.
“It’s an honor and privilege to be able to serve the state capital as Postmaster,” said Dampier. “I look extremely forward to this new opportunity in Frankfort.”
