BALTIMORE — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) recognized two area mailers, The Multimedia and Print Center at Penn State University and OneMain Centralized Mail in Evansville, Indiana, for innovation and industry best practices. Nationwide, 14 companies were honored. The awards were presented on May 24, the final day of the National Postal Forum, the largest annual trade show in the country for the mailing industry, which was held this year in Baltimore.
There were two winners in each of the Postal Service’s seven geographic Areas across the nation. The USPS Area awards were presented to customers in two categories: the Mailing Innovation and Digital Award, recognizing customers who demonstrate creativity by finding new methods to use the mail to drive significant business results and mail growth; and the Shipping and eCommerce Innovation Award, honoring customers who have used industry best practices to implement new technologies to maximize efficiencies, and to convert requests for purchase and fulfillment into package volume reflecting significant business results.
The Multimedia & Print Center at Penn State University received the Eastern Area Mailing Innovation and Digital Award. The Center implemented an automated process to generate personalized mailings to perspective students. This new process reduced the cycle time for delivery from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 days. It has also set a new standard in higher education for reaching students by bridging the gap between digital and print communications.
OneMain Centralized Mail received the Eastern Area Shipping and eCommerce Innovation Award. The company used Priority Mail to generate higher open and read rates in order to increase the response percentage for their mail campaigns. OneMain’s goal was to get its message in front of customers and persuade them to act upon that message.
The other Mailing Innovation and Digital Award winners were:
- Capital Metro: National Geographic, Washington, DC;
- Northeast: Integrated Marketing Services, Inc.;
- Southern: Allegiant Marketing Group, Inc., Edmond, OK;
- Great Lakes: Engineering Innovation Inc., Lafayette, IN;
