USPS Observes Presidents’ Day

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Area Post Offices will be closed, and only Priority Mail Express will be delivered in observance of the Presidents’ Day federal holiday on Monday, February 19, U.S. Postal Service officials announced today.

Regular mail delivery, postal retail operations and mail collections will resume on Tuesday, February 20.

For customers needing to ship mail on the holiday, many area Post Offices offer 24-hour access using credit and debit cards, via self-service kiosks. These kiosks allow customers to:

  • Buy self-adhesive stamps.
  • Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Send items via Express, Priority, and First-Class Mail, as well as by Parcel Post.
  • Purchase insurance up to $500.
  • Look up ZIP Codes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
  • Obtain Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation and Return Receipts.
  • Obtain a receipt.
  • Make PO Box payments.

Postal customers have many options for postal services, even when the regular Post Office is not open. Customers should visit www.usps.com and go to the “Tools” drop-down menu and then to Post Offices and Approved Postal Providers to enter a city and state to find postal providers in their area. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
