MELVILLE,  LA –District Manager Stephen Hardin announced today that, in an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety and well-being of postal customers and employees, the Melville Post Office retail and P.O. Box services will be temporarily adjusted. This is due to facility issues found during a recent safety inspection. There is no timeline for when the Melville Post Office will reopen, but the Postal Service will continue to provide updates to customers.

The information provided below shows an alternate location where customers may conduct retail transactions, P.O. Box services and pick up or drop off their mail.

  • Melville Post Office (71353), 522 Church St., Melville, LA  71353-9998
    • The alternate location for retail services, P.O. Box services, and mail pick up is:
  • Palmetto Post Office, 214 E. Railroad, Palmetto, LA  71358-9998
    • Monday – Friday: 8:00am - 11:00am, 11:30am – 2:30pm
    • Saturday & Sunday: Closed

“We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience that may be caused by the temporary adjustment. I want to offer my assurance that we will work as quickly as possible to reopen the Melville Post Office, as soon as we can safely do so,” said Hardin.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
