The Tax Day deadline for Federal Tax filing is April 17: Tax Day for federal Taxes this year is Tuesday, April 17. The deadline was moved from April 15 because of the observance of Emancipation Day, a Washington DC holiday. Federal Taxes must be postmarked by Tuesday, April 17 to qualify for timely filing.

The Tax Day deadline for Massachusetts State Tax filing is April 17: Tax Day for Massachusetts State Taxes this year is Tuesday, April 17. The deadline was moved because of the observance of Patriot's Day, a Massachusetts state holiday. Massachusetts State Taxes must be postmarked by Tuesday, April 17 to qualify for timely filing.

No extended Post Office hours in Greater Boston- Because the majority of Massachusetts Residents file electronically, there will be no extended hours for Post Offices or collection boxes in the Greater Boston Postal District. Collection box schedules are posted on usps.com under “locate a post office”, and then select “more info”.

No hard-copy tax forms at Massachusetts Post Offices- National news stories have announced that the IRS will not mail out hard-copy tax forms this year. Post Offices in Massachusetts do not distribute tax forms. Tax payers will be able to pick them up at IRS offices and online. Post Office will be open regular business hours on these dates. On Tax Night deadline night, April 17, the window operation at Fort Point Station at 25 Dorchester Ave. in Boston will be open during their regular hours, which are 6:00am to midnight. Customers who need retail window service are advised to get to the Post Office early as parking at Fort Point is limited.

Automated Postal Centers (APCs) are available at thirty-five area Post Offices. Using a debit or credit card, customers can use the APC to weigh and mail their tax returns or regular mail and packages. Most APC locations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Postal customers can easily avoid a trip to the main Post Office by mailing their returns or extension requests early in the day at any of the Post Offices, stations, branches or collection boxes in their community. However, tax filers using a collection box should make certain that the posted pick-up time has not passed to ensure returns will receive a timely postmark.
