Brant Rock, MA — The Brant Rock Post Office, located at 33 Dyke Road in Brant Rock, MA, will be closed at the end of the business day on Friday, March 22, 2013 due to an emergency suspension resulting from the expiration of the lease agreement and an inability to reach a new lease agreement.

Brant Rock Post Office Box customers will not need to change their address or 02020 ZIP Code. But they will need to go to the Ocean Bluff Post Office, located at 555 Ocean Street in Marshfield, MA to access their Post Office Box.

The Ocean Bluff Post Office is approximately 0.6 miles from the Brant Rock location. They are open for retail business Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and from 7:30 a.m. through 12 Noon on Saturday. The lobby is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. to Noon on Saturday.

Customers should be able to use the current keys to access their box at Ocean Bluff Post Office because the current PO Boxes will be moved there. If a customer does have a problem accessing their box, they should go to the customer counter for assistance.

An emergency suspension is not a decision to permanently close a post office, but it does automatically trigger a formal study on whether a post office should be discontinued.  That study looks at several issues including office workload, customer demand and availability of alternatives and does include a public meeting to get customer input. A timeline for the study has not yet been determined.

Postal officials will review the situation and determine the best course of action for the future of the Post Office, including looking at the possibility of finding alternate quarters.
