BOSTON — While postal retail windows and delivery services will be curtailed on Monday’s Memorial Day holiday, postal sales and services are still available 24/7 at Self Service Kiosks (SSKs) in the Greater Boston area. Formerly known as Automated Postal Centers, SSKs are state-of-the-art kiosks that enable customers to weigh and ship packages, buy postage, mail letters, look up ZIP Codes and access other mailing information.

The 36 SSKs are located in the following Post Office lobbies:

  • Leominster
  • Reading
  • Harvard Square
  • Northborough
  • Wakefield
  • Jamaica Plain
  • Westborough
  • Woburn
  • Kendall Square

  • Action
  • Arlington
  • Newton Center
  • Burlington
  • Braintree RU
  • West Roxbury Station
  • Andover
  • Brighton
  • Mansfield
  • Lowell
  • Fort Point Station
  • Randolph

Street addresses of SSK locations, as well as local retailers who provide stamps, can be found on www.usps.com by using the Locate A Post Office search function.

How do I use SSKs?

A touch screen guides customers through transactions by providing a series of prompts for each purchase or sale. Every SSK has a scale to weigh packages. Weight and size help determine the proper amount of postage. Customers enter the destination and decide how quickly the package should arrive in order to calculate postage.

Using a flat-rate box for Priority or Express mail? The SSK will speed you to the easy checkout for your one-size, ship-all postal packaging. SSKs allow customers to print postage labels and pay with a credit or debit card. They include an earphone support for the hearing impaired.

Customers can also access products and services from the convenience of their home office 24/7 by visiting www.usps.com.  Customers may take advantage of special discounts for on-line shipping services and arrange free pick up service.

The Postal Service is observing the Memorial Day federal holiday on Monday, May 27, 2013. All Post Offices will re-open with regular mail delivery, collections, and retails services on Tuesday.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 151 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With 32,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 35th in the 2011 Fortune 500. In 2011, the U.S. Postal Service was ranked number one in overall service performance, out of the top 20 wealthiest nations in the world, Oxford Strategic Consulting. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity.
