Foxborough, MA — The United States Postal Service is proposing the relocation of the Foxborough Main Post Office, located at 15 Wall Street (www.usps.com/locator), to a new location within the same area of town. Studies show that only 1,400 square feet is needed for postal retail operations. Currently the Foxborough Post Office is 18,700 square feet.

Public input is welcome. Postal Officials will make a presentation explaining the details of this plan and listen to public comments at the Town of Foxborough Board of Selectmen’s Meeting scheduled on August 20, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall located at 40 South Street.

Last year, the Postal Service conducted an in-depth study. This study found delivery operations currently housed in the Foxborough Post Office could feasibly be moved to a nearby postal facility in Mansfield. This would allow the Postal Service to relocate its retail operations to a right-size facility. Should plans advance, full retail services including post office box deliveries would be provided. There would not be any interruptions in mail deliveries to local residents or businesses.

The Postal Service faces significant financial challenges. Since 2006, The Postal Service has taken aggressive steps to reduce costs including: reducing our annual cost base by $16 billion dollars; decreasing the size of our career workforce by 202,000 employees; modifying hours of operation at 13,000 Post Offices; eliminating 21,000 delivery routes; and consolidating more than 350 mail-processing facilities. The proposal to right-size the Foxborough Post Office is part of this nationwide cost-reduction effort. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for its operations or facilities, and covers these costs solely through the revenue received from the sale of its products and services.
