Boston, MA — Post Offices in the Greater Boston area are hiring 400 letter carriers over the next 6 months to fill vacant positions in the region. Local candidates are urged to act quickly, with the first wave of online applications now available at the Postal Service’s career website — usps.com/careers — through Saturday.

City Carrier Assistant jobs start at $16.78 an hour with immediate health benefits and available overtime pay.  Job applications are only accepted online.

After approximately 12 months, the carriers are eligible to apply for a career position with even greater benefits including a federal pension.

“Candidates need to be 18 or have a high school diploma, be a legal resident of the US, and have 2 years of driving experience,” said Michael Rakes, District Manager for the Postal Service’s Greater Boston District.  For those looking ahead, Rakes adds that career growth within the Postal Service is available.

“There are great opportunities for advancement within USPS including positions in customer service, accounting, human resources and management. Additional positions are available as auto mechanics and truck drivers,” he explained.

Job postings for City Carrier Assistants will be refreshed often online and interested applicants are encouraged to check frequently for new opportunities.

The US Postal Service is the 2nd largest employer in the United States and one of the nation’s largest employers of veterans.
