Job Open House

SPRINGFIELD MA — Ahead of what promises to be another record-breaking package shipping holiday season, the Postal Service’s Springfield Network Distribution Center will ramp up its seasonal hiring with more than 500 part-time seasonal positions at the 190 Fiberloid Street facility.

The distribution center kicks off its holiday hiring with a special Columbus Day Holiday Jobs Open House on Columbus Day, October 8, from 9 am to 3 pm.  Postal officials will be on hand to answer questions and guide applicants through the job application process.

“You can sign up on Columbus Day and report to work after Veterans Day,” explained the Manager of the Springfield Distribution Center, Ricardo Quental. “This is strictly inside work, working evenings and nights, in the prime holiday processing season. Someone looking for extra holiday cash, a short-term second job or students who need income for next semester are some of the people we hope to see on Columbus Day.”

Pay ranges from $16 to $17.19 per hour.

During a work day, tasks for Springfield Network Distribution Center seasonal employees may include loading and unloading trucks, sorting large packages or sacks by hand, moving equipment or sorting bundles or packages by ZIP Code.  Seasonal employees also receive paid training to learn functions of their work and how to use postal scanning equipment.

“Some of our seasonal workers return for the holiday period for years and some have found a pathway to permanent postal employment through the contacts they have made here as well,” added Quental.

Work assignments include evenings and nights, six days a week, for the holiday period that runs November 13 through January 4.

Postal officials note that veterans and college students are encouraged to apply. All applicants must meet these minimum requirements:

  • 18 Years at time of appointment
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Ability to pass criminal background check, medical assessment and drug screen
  • Registered with Selective Service, if applicable

Those interested in applying who cannot attend the Open House are encouraged to use the Postal Service’s website at www.usps.com/careers. This includes a listing now for Holiday Casual in Springfield.

Postings for all positions in Springfield and Western Massachusetts are placed on this site and are updated regularly.  Candidates for employment are encouraged to monitor the site.
