A celebration of Springfield Letter Carrier Garrett Smola, who assisted an elderly man during an attempted robbery

Background:

   

Letter Carrier Garrett Smola was picking up a package from a customer when he came upon a young man “beating an elderly man.” Mr. Smola immediately walked over to stop the attack in progress.  He stayed with the man until the EMTs arrived to transport him the elderly man to the hospital, where he was admitted.

The victim plans to attend the event to personally thank the letter carrier for his assistance. District Manager David Mastroianni, Jr. will present a letter from the United States Postmaster General thanking the letter carrier for his heroic actions.
