WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Postal Service today recognized U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services with its Corporate Business Achievement Award for the agency’s commitment to a successful business partnership with the Postal Service. A select group of postal customers is acknowledged and recognized for their contributions to the continued success of the mailing industry at the annual National Postal Forum.

The Corporate Business Achievement Award, one of three “best in class” awards presented annually at the Forum, recognizes customers who have use postal products and services to deliver value and to help strengthen and grow their businesses. They are committed to producing winning results and these awards honor that commitment.

An agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) oversees lawful immigration to the United States. USCIS is comprised of approximately 18,000 government employees and contractors working at 250 offices throughout the word. Per its mission statement, USCIS works to “secure America’s promise as a nation of immigrants by providing accurate and useful information to their customers, granting immigration and citizenship benefits, promoting awareness and understanding of citizenship, and ensuring the integrity of the immigration system.”

USCIS mails over three million documents annually to its customers. In order to ensure secure delivery of those documents, the agency collaborated with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) on the Secure Mail Initiative. When the budget for this initiative was approved, it became a high priority project. The project requirements included a visible mailpiece, reliable delivery, and a tracking and delivery confirmation element. USPS leveraged its resources to present USCIS with the best solution for the products and services needed; Priority Mail with a customized packaging and Delivery Confirmation.

With the strong partnership well established and an excellent product and reliable service offered, USCIS made the decision to accept the USPS proposal. To meet the visibility requirement, USPS designed a customized Priority Mail packaging “Security Tint” envelope, along with accompanying labels. Weekly teleconferences and testing of the packaging and service helped ensure the success of the initiative. The first mailing with this distinct packaging began in December 2010.

The National Postal Forum is the mailing industry’s largest trade show and networking event for industry professionals. Since 1968, it has provided business mailers with ongoing training and education, and helped them keep pace with the mailing industry’s rapid progress. Held once a year in the spring, the Forum is a combination educational conference/trade show offering a wide range of opportunities for attendees. For more information, visit www.npf.org.
