CUMBERBERLAND, MD — Sean O’Donnell continues in the long tradition of Postmasters who have served the Cumberland community. O’Donnell will be officially installed as Postmaster of Cumberland on Saturday, January 26, 2013. An area native, O’Donnell is only the second locally selected candidate for the position (since the elimination of Political Appointees) and the 40th Postmaster to assume duties at the Cumberland Facility. O’Donnell replaces former Postmaster Edwin Turner. The Cumberland Post Office has grown dramatically since late 1794 – now serving over 35,000 homes and businesses.
“I’m excited and proud to have the opportunity to continue the tradition of providing excellent service to Cumberland and the surrounding communities,” said O’Donnell
As Cumberland Postmaster, O’Donnell will manage a workforce of approximately 113 employees. He will be responsible for delivery of 170,000 pieces of mail daily, with 27 city routes and 10 rural routes. His area of responsibility will be the Cumberland Main Post Office at 215 Park Street, three branch offices and processing mail for 48 Associate Offices in the 215/267areas. O’Donnell will also oversee the Bulk Mail Entry Unit and two Contract Postal Units.
O’Donnell most recently served as acting Postmaster in Cumberland. “I look forward to continue working with all of Cumberland postal employees in providing the one thing that keeps our customers coming back - excellent service,” O’Donnell said.
