PORTLAND – As the Postal Service becomes a leaner, smarter, faster organization, it is also becoming easier to use — especially with its successful products Every Door Direct Mail and Global Shipping.
Free seminars are being held to assist local businesses and individuals interested in expanding their marketing mix to take advantage of both products.
More and more small businesses are moving to Direct Mail — but not just the traditional kind. Users can now target a location without an address. Instead of a customer’s name and street address, pieces only need to be labeled to “Postal Customer”, “Residential Customer” or “P.O. Box Holder.”
“The Postal Service now offers relaxed simplified addressing standards making it easier than ever to get started using Direct Mail,” said Leila Steckowych, Manager, Shipping & Mailing Solutions for the Northern New England District. “Every Door Direct Mail is a perfect fit for smaller mailers who want to try Direct Mail to advertise but were concerned about the preparation time and cost. Now they need only mail delivery route information, which is free on our website, https://eddm.usps.com/eddm/,” she added.
In addition, many businesses looking to expand recognize the value and the benefits of marketing and shipping internationally. Seminars are being offered that demonstrate how to take a business global as easily as it is to do locally — thanks to the Internet and Global Shipping.
Now small business owners can learn how to take advantage of both tools at free classes at select Post Offices throughout Northern New England. In upcoming weeks, attendees will learn how Every Door Direct Mail can easily and inexpensively turn potential prospects into real customers — at no cost. They will also learn how to expand their markets overseas with Global Shipping. The free seminars will be hosted by friendly Mailing Solutions specialists from the Postal Service.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With 32,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $67 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 29th in the 2010 Fortune 500. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency six consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
