Detroit District Post Offices to Close at Noon on Christmas Eve

December 16, 2009

DETROIT, MI — Retail counters at most metro Detroit area Post Offices in city’s and towns with 480, 481, 482, 483 and 492 ZIP Codes will close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. However, mail will be delivered as usual on that day. Mail deposited in blue collection boxes will be picked up at the regular scheduled times posted in zip codes in 481, 482 and 492. All other collection boxes in the metro Detroit area will be collected at 1 p.m. All Post Offices will be closed Christmas Day, with regular mail delivery resuming Saturday, Dec. 26.

“Many businesses close early Christmas Eve,” says Detroit Postmaster Lloyd E, Wesley Jr. “The number of customers visiting our lobbies those days greatly diminishes. We view this as an opportunity to allow our retail employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in many locations early on December 24.”
