Grand Rapids MI — Faced with revenue losses in the billions of dollars as a result of unprecedented declines in mail volume and retail lobby transactions, the Postal Service is closing the finance station in downtown Midland. This action is part of an ongoing effort by the Postal Service to reduce costs by adjusting operations to the changing mailing habits and preferences of its customers.
The Downtown finance station, located at 144 Ashman Street, will discontinue operations on August 27, 2010.
Retail services and P.O. boxes at the Downtown Finance Station will be relocated to the Midland Main Post Office at 2900 Rodd St. P.O. Box customers will be able to retain their present Post Office box number or they may opt to receive mail delivery at their home or business address. The hours of operation for the Midland Main Post Office are 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
As an added customer convenience, an Automated Postal Center (APC) is available at the Midland Main Post Office. Operating much like an automated teller machine, an APC is a self-service kiosk where customers can purchase stamps, mail and ship packages, look up ZIP Codes, submit a hold-mail or change-of-address request, or request a carrier pick up for an Express or Priority Mail shipment. APC purchases are available only by credit or debit card.
Most retail products and services from the Postal Service are available at its website – usps.com. Customers can buy stamps and use Click-N-Ship to print mailing and shipping labels and pay for postage from a personal computer equipped with internet access 24/7.
Customers can also purchase Postal Service retail products and services at the following location:
MEIJER STORE
7300 EASTMAN AVE
MIDLAND, MI 48642-7817
The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. The agency relies on the sale of postage, products and services to cover the cost of operating our nation’s mail system.
