DETROIT— Seven Oaks letter carrier Rosalyn Bass-Coles will be recognized in front of her peers by postal management at 9 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, at the Seven Oaks Post Office 17625 W. 7 Mile Rd Detroit 48235 for saving the life of one of her customers.
Eighty-two year old Florence Mill laid helpless on the floor of her Basil street home for four days before Bass-Coles came to her aid.
Mill had fallen in her home and injured her leg and was unable to get up. Bass-Cole who had been delivering mail to the home all week noticed that the door had remained opened and the mail was beginning to accumulate. Mill had fallen on Tuesday, July 27. Bass-Cole found Mill alert and dehydrated on Friday, July 30. She called 911 and Mill was taken to Henry Ford Hospital. She has since called Bass-Coles to thank her.
“Its part of our job as letter carriers to be observant”, says Bass-Coles. “We are the eyes and ears for the community and are a valuable part of the communities we serve”.
“We are very proud of Rosalyn”, says Oak Park Station Manager Chynita Evans. “She is truly a hero”.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500
