Background:

The Royal Oak Post Office wants to spread holiday cheer and help customers get all their shipping and mailing needs completed before the busiest time of the year.

With an increase in early and online shopping for gifts, there is no longer a “busiest day” for holiday shipping. Instead, the Postal Service predicts the week of Dec. 18 - 24 to be the busiest mailing, shipping, and delivery week. During this week, nearly 3 billion pieces of First Class Mail, including greeting cards, will be processed and delivered. The Postal Service is projecting about 15 billion pieces of mail, including more than 850 million packages, will be delivered between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
