Background:  

Firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency medical service Professionals are being recognized today by the Detroit District Postal Service at a special ceremony for the Honoring First Responders Forever stamp.

The ceremony is being held at the Detroit Public Safety Headquarters, a law enforcement and fire department complex which houses the headquarters for the Detroit Police Department, Detroit Fire Department, Detroit Emergency Medical Service and a forensics laboratory for the Michigan State Police.

The Honoring First Responders stamp is issued as a Forever stamp, which is always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
