The U.S. Postal Service debuted pictorial postmarks in the early 1970s as a way to recognize, among other things, events of significance. On Saturday, Sept. 23, USPS will partner with FinnFest USA to celebrate 100 years of Finland as a nation state with this special commemorative postmark.
The collectible postmark is available from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the FinnFest Tori (marketplace) located on Peavey Plaza, outside of Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall, in Minneapolis. Specially-designed FinnFest postcards and notecards will be available for purchase.
“Commemorative postmarks are a great, inexpensive way to remember the important people, places and events in our lives,” says USPS Customer Relations Coordinator Sarah Schultz. “If you are attending on FinnFest on Sept. 23, please stop by, visit with us, and collect this special memento.”
The postmark is also available for 30 days after by mail. To request by mail, affix First-Class postage to an envelope or postcard of your choice, using any stamps that were issued before Sept. 23. Place in a larger envelope (along with a large self-addressed stamped envelope for the return trip) and send to:
