December 30, 2011

LIBERTY, MO – The U.S. Postal Service will issue the Presort non-denominated Spectrum Eagle Stamp at the Liberty, MO City Hall on Tues., Jan. 3, 2012. The stamp, which is priced at 25 cents, will be issued in six designs in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) coil of 3,000 (Item 788400) and a PSA coil of 10,000 (Item 788500).

A brief unveiling ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., on the second floor of the Liberty City Hall, located at 101 E Kansas in Liberty. Special guest speakers will include Liberty Mayor Greg Canuteson; Khalid Hussain, manager of the Postal Service's Kansas City-based Stamp Fulfillment Services Center; and Liberty Postmaster Kelly McCartney.

The six new Presorted First-Class Mail stamps feature an artist’s rendering of the bald eagle. The eagle’s profile is depicted in white, set against a sequence of six varying shades of reds, yellows, greens, and blues. Each color blends with the one following, resulting in a gradual spectrum from left to right across the six stamps.

Illustrator Michael Osborne worked with art director Ethel Kessler to create the stamp art. The stamp will also go on sale nationwide on January 3.
