VICKSBURG – Current flooding in Vicksburg has caused the Postal Service to curtail delivery in certain areas. Beginning immediately, alternative measures are being finalized for customers to pick up their mail.
Several hundred deliveries on multiple routes in the area west of Highway 61 including the Eagle Lake and Kings Subdivision are affected at this point with more expected. That number may approach 1,000 postal deliveries.
If customers are currently in a flooded area, their mail is being held at the Vicksburg Main Post Office. If customers are in an area not yet flooded, the rural carrier will attempt to deliver that mail, but if flooding increases, the carrier will return customers’ mail to the Vicksburg Main Post Office where it will be held for pick-up.
Customers will be able to pick up their mail at the Vicksburg Main Post Office at 3415 Pemberton Square Boulevard. The post office box lobby “Dutch” or split door will be open between the hours of 10 AM CDT and 2 PM CDT, Monday through Saturday, to allow customers to retrieve their mail as long as is necessary.
All mail will be distributed to customers who provide government-issued photo identification or other appropriate proof of identity. If a customer does not have proper identification, mail will only be provided if the Vicksburg Postmaster or other postal employee, including their carriers, if available, have personal knowledge of that customer. If this procedure becomes necessary, it will be documented thoroughly.
Customers are reminded that renting a post office box is a quick and convenient way to retrieve your mail and provide consistent security. Ease of use with post office box rental eliminates any waiting and provides delivery of your mail in the morning each and every day.
For further information, customers should call the Vicksburg Post Office; telephone 601-636-1071.
