Charlotte, NC — The Starmount Station Post Office, located at 6241 South Blvd. in Charlotte, is hosting a Passport Fair on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications. The Postal Service is joining the Department of State in celebrating “Passport Day in the USA,” a national passport acceptance and outreach event.

Northeast Station, located at 1820 Harris Houston Road, is also accepting applications as part of “Passport Day in the USA.” Applications at Northeast Station are by appointment only, and appointments can be secured by calling 704-717-9117.

On June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry.

“We are happy to leverage the convenience of the Postal Service and partner with the Department of State to help our customers apply for passports,” said Postmaster Tom Callahan.

Information on the cost and how to apply for a passport book and/or passport card can be found at www.usps.com/passport/ or travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1.877.487.2778.

In 2008, the Postal Service accepted 8.5 million passport applications. Applicants are encouraged in advance to print an application online have it completed prior to going to the Post Office.
