FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Bladenboro Post Office celebrated an “institution” on Thursday, December 3 when Rural Carrier Clifton Kinlaw received the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award. The award recognizes thirty years or one million miles of safe driving.

Kinlaw’s award was only the 36th such award in the Postal Service’s Mid-Carolinas District of this year. The Mid-Carolinas District covers the lower half of North Carolina and upper part of South Carolina and it serves customers in ZIP Code areas beginning with the following three digits: 280-285, 287-289 and 297.

Mid-Carolinas District Manager David Fields traveled from Charlotte to present the award, stating, “I personally present every one of these awards because it is such a tremendous achievement. With more than 5,000 drivers on the road every day throughout our district, you’re among an elite group of professional drivers.” Kinlaw has remained accident free for thirty-three years, but he never takes that for granted. His advice to his fellow drivers is to “take it one day at a time.”

Bladenboro Postmaster (A) Susi Traux nominated Kinlaw for the award, and she cites his calm, even demeanor for his success. “It’s an honor to work with Clifton, and I am just blessed to have him here as an example for our other employees.”

Traux invited Kinlaw’s family to join him at the surprise event, including his wife, Huldah, son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Jane, with their sons Bryan and Daniel.
