CHARLOTTE, NC — The Greater Charlotte Postal Customer Council (PCC) recently held its holiday luncheon at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway, and it helped a lot of children in Mecklenburg County have a brighter Christmas. The PCC is made up of businesses that use the mail to communicate and interact with their customers.

The Council asked all attendees to bring one new, unwrapped toy to donate to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots campaign. SSGT Michael Vasquez, Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge and Toys for Tots coordinator, expressed his appreciation for the PCC’s responsiveness.

“This is our favorite time of the year, and we look forward to making Christmas morning a happy one for the children who might not have anything under their tree,” said Vasquez. Vasquez says the current economy has impacted the number of toys donated this year, so he urged everyone to spread the word about the effort. “We’re hurting. At this time last year, we had more than 16,000 toys, and we’re lucky if we have 2,000 so far this year.” The Mecklenburg Toys for Tots season lasts through Dec 23. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at several locations throughout Mecklenburg County. For information, visit www.ToysForTotsCharlotte.org.
