CHARLOTTE, NC — Business Leader Media held a luncheon yesterday recognizing female leaders in Charlotte and surrounding areas who serve their community and are held in high regard by those around them. Mooresville Postmaster Doris Caldwell-Reed was selected for her ability to balance a busy postal work schedule with community involvement and quality family time.

David Fields, District Manager/Lead Executive for the Postal Service’s Mid-Carolinas District, nominated Caldwell-Reed for her accomplishments at work and off the job.

From her previous job as an aerospace engineer to her current job as Postmaster, Doris’s mother, Mattie Caldwell says Doris has always “done it all.” She is an active member of her church, several community organizations, her son’s school and extracurricular activities and still manages to jointly operate a successful real estate business with her husband!

In her 19 years with the Postal Service, Caldwell-Reed has earned several accolades, most recently leading a team of employees to attain Star Status with OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program at both Salisbury and Mooresville Main Post Offices.

Doris Caldwell-Reed is a dedicated and effective leader within the Postal Service. According to Fields, “She is well respected by her peers. The success she has achieved rising to higher levels of responsibility within the Postal Service comes from a strong focus on people as well as a high level of drive and dedication to her employees and customers alike.”

When accepting the award, Caldwell-Reed thanked her family for their support, and she thanked Fields for the nomination. Caldwell-Reed also stated that she lives to serve. “I enjoy what I do because I take care of our customers. Meeting their needs is our Priority.”

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.
