CHARLOTTE, NC — Concord residents welcomed a new postal leader today when Anthony J. Spriggs was installed as the city’s Postmaster. Mid-Carolinas District Manager David Fields administered the oath of office during a ceremony that was attended by more than 50 guests.

Fields thanked Spriggs for his dedication and willingness to serve the postal customers of Concord. “You will be an integral part of the community, and we wish all the best to you and your family as you serve our customers here in Concord.”

Spriggs celebrated the occasion with his wife Denora, their children Dominique, Alexandra and Donovan and his “two Mothers.” Spriggs’ mother and his wife’s mother joined him as he thanked his employees, his “postal family” and everyone who has supported him throughout his career.

Anthony began his management career as a June 2004 graduate of the Postal Service’s Associate Supervisor Program in Cincinnati, OH. He later assumed the position of Manager, Customer Service in Humble TX before moving to NC, where he served as Manager at Charlotte’s W.T. Harris Station.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
