MILLION REASONS TO CELEBRATE: Archdale city carrier Pete Lockhart (left photo, and center, right photo) gets NSC Million Mile award, flanked by (right photo, l-r) Station Mgr. Shane Johnston, Area B POOM Linda Strong, High Point PM Roy Montague, and HR Mgr. Penny Fleury.

ARCHDALE, NC – Pete Lockhart, a 31-year veteran of the Postal Service and city letter carrier at Archdale Station near High Point, is the latest postal employee to earn prestigious induction into the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club, awarded to professional drivers in workplaces across America who have driven at least 30 years or one million miles without a preventable motor vehicle accident.

Lockhart was joined by his wife Carol, Human Resources Manager Penny Fleury, Post Office Operations Manager, Area B Linda Strong, High Point Postmaster Roy Montague and Archdale Station Manager Shane Johnston to underscore the uniqueness of the recognition. “We know how hard it is to drive these streets safely, especially with so many distractions out there,” said Strong. “To do your job the right way for so long, and to do it without having any accidents, is a remarkable achievement. I just want you to know that, on behalf of the Postal Service, we really appreciate it.”

Added Fleury, who was representing District Manager Russ Gardner, “Our district has been among the top performing districts for the past year and a half, and it’s due to the commitment and dedication of people like Pete, as well as his fellow employees at Archdale and in all the postal facilities here.”

Lockhart, a resident of Lexington, has no intention of retiring

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
