Release No. 83-10

PFAFFTOWN, NC — Bruce P. Huffman was recently appointed new Postmaster of Pfafftown. Huffman, a Winston–Salem native and postal employee for 23 years, replaces Jeannie Young, who retired.

Huffman began his career as a part–time city letter carrier in Greensboro in April 1987 before transferring to Winston–Salem in 1989 as a full–time carrier. In 2003 he completed the Associate Supervisor Program and served in supervisory roles in Mocksville and Winston–Salem. He also served as acting Postmaster in Cleveland and Mocksville prior to taking the position in Pfafftown.

“The town of Pfafftown is growing and the Post Office is here to grow with it,” says Huffman. “I want the Pfafftown Post Office to be an office which excels in customer service. We will be here for the customer.”

At the Pfafftown Post Office, located at 4715 Yadkinville Road, Huffman is responsible for 15 employees and eight routes that deliver to over 4200 delivery points and 460 Post Office Boxes. The Post Office is open Monday–Friday 8 am – 4 pm and Saturday 9–11 am.

Huffman resides in Lexington and is married with three children. “We are in a service oriented business and service is what I want to offer as the Postmaster,” he says. “We will give this community a Post Office they can be proud of and want to patronize.”

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
