Danny White named new Glen Alpine Postmaster

“Meet the Postmaster” at Customer Appreciation Day Friday

June 22, 2010

GLEN ALPINE, NC — Danny White was recently appointed new Postmaster of Glen Alpine, and will host a Customer Appreciation Day at Glen Alpine Post Office, 102 Catawba Street, on Friday, June 25, 2010 from 8 am – 12 noon. White, a resident of the Salem community and postal employee for 16 years, replaces Debra Brown, who retired last year.

White began his postal career in 1994 as a city carrier alternate in Valdese before transferring to the clerk position in 1996. It wasn’t long before he began his ascent into the management ranks, serving as Officer-in-Charge in Patterson in 2002, and later Hildebran. He served as Postmaster of Thurmond and Ferguson prior to his appointment to Glen Alpine, where he worked as Officer-in-Charge since April 2009. He was reared in Hickory and holds a dual degree from Catawba Valley Technical Institute

“As the new Postmaster in Glen Alpine, I hope to connect with the community by educating them about our mailing classes and the special services that can be attached to those classes,” said White. “The staff is well trained and knowledgeable about these services and will help the customers select the ones that best suit their needs.”

At Glen Alpine Post Office, White is responsible for three employees that handle more than 2500 pieces of mail daily for over 1000 Post Office Boxes. The Post Office is open Monday-Friday 8:30 am – 12:30 pm and 2 – 4 pm, and on Saturday from 9 – 11 am.

For Friday’s Customer Appreciation Day, White will be available to meet and greet customers until lunch time. Light refreshments will be available.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
