Tom Pollard named new Hillsborough Postmaster

Tom Pollard, Hillsborough postmasterHILLSBOROUGH, NC — Tom Pollard was recently appointed new Postmaster of Hillsborough. Pollard, a local resident and postal employee for 11 years, replaces Officer-in-Charge Sylvia Bullins, who returned to her home office in Siler City.

Pollard began his postal career in 1998 as a postal carrier in Durham. Two years later he was promoted and began his managerial career as supervisor, customer services at Shannon Plaza Station in Durham. In 2006 he was promoted to Manager, Customer Services at Eno Valley Station in Durham, which he served prior to his current appointment. He is a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer, having served 24 years in the U.S. Navy.

“I want to make clear to the citizens of Hillsborough that service is our priority at the Postal Service,” says Pollard. “The town is growing and I hope to grow with it. We will keep in touch with the community and let them know what is going on.

At Hillsborough Post Office, located at 144 E. King Street, Pollard is responsible for 30 employees and 18 routes that deliver almost 4 million pieces of mail annually to nearly 11,000 delivery points and 1200 Post Office Boxes. The Post Office is open Monday to Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm and Saturdays 10 am – 12 noon.

Pollard is a native of Durham and is married with two sons and five grandchildren. “I plan to reflect on what my customers really want and give them what they really need,” he says.
