MOCKSVILLE, NC – Two letter carriers from Mocksville will be honored next week after having joined the ranks of the prestigious Million Mile Club, the highest honor given to professional drivers in the workplace.
On Wednesday, March 16 at 7 am, two employees – city carrier Walter Allen III, a resident of Advance, and rural carrier William Spillman Jr., a local resident – will be recognized at the Mocksville Post Office, 1119 Yadkinville Road, the highlight of a day of recognition for safe drivers in the office.
Mocksville Postmaster Shane Johnston and District Manager Russ Gardner will recognize the carriers for their ability to drive regularly for the Postal Service for at least 30 years – which translates to at least one million miles – without incurring a preventable motor vehicle accident. The award is given by the National Safety Council.
“The Postal Service is proud of their accomplishments and our community should likewise be proud of the safety record they bring into the communities they serve,” said Johnston.
According to the NSC, the status is to professional driving as reaching the peak of Mt. Everest is to the sport of climbing.
