Oxford postal carrier reaches the top

Postmaster to honor “million mile” employee Sept. 13

September 08, 2011

OXFORD, NC — A letter carrier and life-long resident of Oxford will be honored Tuesday after having joined the ranks of the prestigious Million Mile Club, the highest honor given to professional drivers in the workplace.

On Tuesday, September 13 @8:30 am, rural letter carrier Betty Stovall will be recognized at the Oxford Post Office, 144 Main Street, as the latest inductee into the Million Mile Club.

Oxford Postmaster Karl Whitt and Post Office Operations Manager Chris Spann will recognize Stovall for her ability to drive regularly for the Postal Service for at least 30 years – which translates to at least one million miles – without incurring a preventable motor vehicle accident. The award is given by the National Safety Council.

"The Postal Service is proud of Ms. Stovall’s accomplishments and our community should likewise be proud of the safety record she brings," said Whitt.

According to the NSC, the status is to professional driving as reaching the peak of Mt. Everest is to the sport of climbing.
