DURHAM, NC — In Durham Post Office, time to make way for a new King.
Michael King, a postal employee of 23+ years, was recently named new Postmaster of Durham. He replaces Dominic Camasso, who retired last year.
King began his postal career in 1988 as a letter carrier in Brighton, MA. In a short time span he began working as an acting supervisor in Brighton and Roxbury, MA, and served stints as acting manager in Kenmore and Roxbury, and acting Postmaster in Whitman and Frankin, MA. He was named Postmaster of Whitman in 2004 and of Franklin, MA in 2007, then traveled to Raleigh in 2008, where was promoted to Manager, Customer Services at Hilburn Station. Starting last year he was appointed Acting Postmaster of Durham until recently, when he was promoted to the position officially.
“My objective is to make us the number one Post Office in customer service and efficiency to the residents and businesses of Durham,” says King. “We will partner with them in order to continue the growth and revitalization of the ‘Bull City.’”
In Durham, the main Post Office is located at 323 E. Chapel Hill Street, and there are five other delivery stations, seven retail units and four Contract Post Offices doing postal business. Within those facilities, King is responsible for 230 employees and 200 carrier routes that deliver more than 105 million pieces of mail annually to more than 122,000 delivery points and 10,00 Post Office Boxes. For the actual locations and retail hours of these Post Offices, go to www.usps.com and select “Find USPS Locations.”
King is a native of Texas and Massachusetts and now resides in Oak Ridge, NC with his wife Paula. They have a grown son Michael and a teen daughter Diranna Michaela.
“The changes to the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods have brought enthusiasm and a renewed sense of purpose to the long time residents here as well as the up and coming Generation Y,” says King. “I plan to partner with the communities and be a part of their events.”
“We have every intention on continuing to provide efficient delivery, helping local businesses grow and being a relevant option to the people of Chapel Hill,” says Wiggins-Wooten.
