Millers Creek postal carrier reaches the top

Postmaster to honor "million mile" employee Nov. 1

MILLERS CREEK, NC — A 33-year letter carrier and resident of Millers Creek will be honored Tuesday after having joined the ranks of the prestigious Million Mile Club, the highest honor given to professional drivers in the workplace.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2011 @8:30 am, during a ceremony honoring numerous employees for their stellar safety performances, letter carrier Ron Bumgarner will be recognized as the latest inductee into the Million Mile Club. The ceremony will happen.at the Millers Creek Post Office, 148 Post Office Drive.

Millers Creek Postmaster Mark Jolly and Officer-in-Charge Mark Hall will recognize Bumgarner for his ability to drive regularly for the Postal Service for at least 30 years – which translates to at least one million miles – without incurring a preventable motor vehicle accident. The award is given by the National Safety Council.

“The Postal Service is proud of Mr. Bumgarner’s accomplishments and our community should likewise be proud of the safety record he brings,” said Jolly.

According to the NSC, the status is to professional driving as reaching the peak of Mt. Everest is to the sport of climbing.
