Winston-Salem State University and the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate Women’s History Month with the dedication of the Latin Music Legends commemorative stamps, which feature three legendary female performers of Latin sound – Selena, Carmen Miranda and Celia Cruz. Also featured on the stamp set are Tito Puente and Carlos Gardel.
WHO:
Winston-Salem Postmaster Toni Agner will serve as dedicating official for the program, and sensational Latin guitarist Eudulio Solis will perform music from the artists being recognized. Also performing will be Winston-Salem’s Quality Education Program Orchestra.

BACKGROUND:
Five legendary musicians and performers of the Latin sound whose contributions have had a lasting impact on American music – Selena, Carlos Gardel, Carmen Miranda, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz – are being honored on U.S. commemorative Forever stamps, now on sale nationwide at Post Offices and online at www.usps.com/shop.
This event is free and open to the public. It is one of the central events among a month-long schedule of activities sponsored by the college to enhance awareness and exposure to various contributions of women in American history and culture.
